My winemaking experience has allowed me the opportunity to work and mentor with many talented winemakers. The trait that I cherish most from my past experience and one that I instill in today is that no job is too small or insignificant to make a difference in wine quality.

Working closely in the vineyards with the growers throughout the growing season to ensure that the highest quality fruit is delivered to the winery. To me, winemaking success is achieved in the vineyard; using minimalist winemaking techniques, I work to express the varietal and unique characteristics of each vineyard. I believe I have succeeded when the finished wine has intriguing character that challenges and rewards the senses.
Q&A With the Winemaker
Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?
A: Premier Napa Valley allowed me to reach deep into our caves and pick out a wine that had been in contact with the lees for a staggering 14 years – almost three times longer than our top cuvée receives. It was a real treat to be able to bring out our remaining 60 bottles of this wine, and share it with the PNV attendees.
Q: What was your inspiration for this offering?
A: We always want our PNV offering to be something that is extremely unique and special. When we held back these 60 bottles of our 1994 Reserve, we didn’t know when we would end up pulling them out, but upon tasting the wine, we knew that PNV 2010 was the perfect time to unveil the stunning wine.
Q: Fill in the blanks: I chose to make this wine from this particular ______________ because ______________.
A: I chose to make this wine from this particular blend because Reserve is our top Pinot Noir sparkling wine offering, and we love the way that it ages in the caves while in contact with the lees. The caramelized and rich stone fruit flavors are explosive on the palate, with a rich creaminess that is enhanced by the prolonged contact with the yeast. We love to offer these late disgorged wines when we are able, and the 2010 PNV was the opportunity to provide our fans this rare experience to taste a truly one-of-a-kind offering, and in turn allow one lucky PNV bidder the chance to offer this wine to their most cherished customers.
Q: Why should a wine lover have a bottle of this wine in their cellar?
A: Nowhere will a wine lover find a sparkling wine that is in such a perfect state of aged balance as you find here. This wine has been kept in the most pristine condition throughout its 16 years of its life. From the blending of the base wines, through the aging in the caves, and even to the process of choosing the dosage for this wine, the utmost care and concentration has been observed to ensure that this wine is the top Blanc de Noirs style wine that we can offer – and that a wine lover can have in their cellar. Great wines are about creating a everlasting moment when finally opened, and this wine will not disappoint.
