Description
The Pulido~Walker label is inscribed with an ancient apothecary weight bearing the seasonal symbols of alchemy.
This Old World instrument of precise measure expresses our patient pursuit of "The Possible" where the
natural alchemy of geography, soil, climate, and clone combine to yield a wine greater than the sum of its parts.
Melanson Vineyard vines are grown in the rugged mountains of Pritchard Hill east of Oakville in fractured serpentine rock and clay soils on a steep southwestern slope at elevations of 1,100 to 1,380 above sea level. Capping a textbook 2013 growing season, award-winning winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown was graced with a long picking window allowing ripening to proceed beautifully. The powerfully expressed ink-black fruit shows blueberry, blackberry, licorice, and graphite aromas. The higher tannins give this savory wine more structure with less weight on the palate promising exceptional agebility.

Thomas Brown
Winemaker, Pulido~Walker
One of the country’s top talents, Thomas was named 2010’s winemaker of the year by Food & Wine magazine. He has been in Napa since 1997, where he began his career at Turley Cellars and now makes wines for select premium labels. Over the last decade, Thomas has received not just one but ten 100-point Wine Advocate Parker scores to go along with two 100-point awards from Wine Spectator. Beyond generosity and roundness in tannins, his wines have few common traits and are very individual.

Education: Thomas developed an interest in wine while studying History and English at the University of Virginia.
His new education began when winemaker Ehren Jordan at cult Zinfandel producer Turley Wine Cellars gave him an entry-level job in 1997.

Winemaking Philosophy:
Winemaking at Pulido~Walker is a strictly non-interventionist process that allows the wine to authentically reflect its origins. After several rounds of thinning throughout the growing season, we hand harvest the very best fruit from select blocks in each of our vineyards and treat it gently: carefully sorting, pre/post de-stemming, never crushing. The wine cold soaks and then ferments in small-lot tanks. We add no synthetic yeast, sulfur, acid, or enzymes and bottle without fining or filtration.
Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown eschews technology and the manipulations that contribute to sameness. Rather than following a set schedule, his process is dictated by smell and taste. We place our faith in the raw material the vineyard provides and step aside to let the terroir speak.
