Description
In 1972, Tom Burgess established a winery and business on the side of Howell Mountain with efforts ranging from repairing a 100-year old winery to mending fences and promoting the then-unknown Napa Valley region. Honoring Tom's passion and determination, we named this year’s Premiere Napa Valley wine “Brush Breaker." This rare expression of Napa Valley winemaking is one of only 60 bottles that will ever be made. Think of it as a bit of Napa Valley history in your cellar and celebrated in a glass with friends and family. This unique Premiere Napa Valley wine is 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from our historic 1880 Estate Vineyard, aging in 100 percent new French oak for 20 months. Harvested at the peak of perfection, “Brush Breaker” has all the characteristics of a western-facing hillside vineyard on Howell Mountain - inky, black fruit and cassis flavors and violet fragrance with the perfect balance of sweet French oak and refined, velvety tannins. Consistently the backbone of our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, we wanted to showcase the classic elegance that this single vineyard block expresses. This legendary wine is sure to be a stunner for years to come.

I fell into winemaking by accident, and what a happy accident it has become! As a winemaker, I've been fortunate to work with some of the best fruit in the valley ranging from the beautiful hillsides of Howell Mountain to the fabulous valley floor vines in Rutherford and beyond. I've had the pleasure of working with some of the finest winemakers that have helped shape and form my winemaking philosophies and techniques. I love the challenge that each vintage brings, and taking what Mother Natures gives us to create elegant, world-renowned wines.
