Highlights
- Old vine Cabernet Franc, dry-farmed, organic, steep hillside on the foothills of Mt. Veeder
- Perfumed and elegant, lifted aromatics, feather light on the palate
- A window into wines of bygone years, this is an ethereal Cabernet Franc our grandparents might have enjoyed
- Transparent, transcendent, transportive
Description
The steep hillside Phoenix Vineyard sits on a unique ridge of ancient marine shale soils. The rock content and sea minerals of these soils create unique wines with high-toned red fruits, perfumed and exotic, with a lightness in the mid-palate yet a long, firm and structured finish. These old dry-farmed heritage vines are tended organically, completely by hand. The wines are ethereal, aromatic and long, with weight but never heaviness. This is a Cabernet Franc for lovers of the variety - lifted fruit aromas, fresh herbs, light color and delicate mid-palate, with a long and incredibly complex finish.

Steve Matthiasson
Winemaker, Matthiasson
Years of working with different wineries on the vineyard side of the business has helped me understand the relationship between viticulture and wine. After a decade of exploring making wine from different grape varieties, vineyard sites, and farming techniques I started making our Matthiasson wines in 2003. I strive to make wines that are ripe and powerful yet food friendly and moderate in alcohol. We grow traditional Napa varieties like Cabernet and Chardonnay as well as less common varieties such as Ribolla Gialla and Cabernet Franc.
