Brian Maloney

Winemaker, Buena Vista Winery, Charles Krug

Brian Maloney was born on his family’s historic ranch in the Petaluma Gap straddling the Marin and Sonoma County border.

Inspired by his grandmother’s stories of her father’s struggles growing grapes and making wine in the Calistoga area before, during and after Prohibition, he enrolled in the world-famous Viticulture and Enology program at the University of California, Davis. Following graduation he worked the harvest of 2003 at DeLoach Vineyards and has remained there ever since, playing a key role in elevating the winery’s Pinot Noir pedigree, expanding its vineyard-designate program, and planting and establishing its Biodynamic estate vineyard.

Starting in 2011, Brian has expanded his responsibilities to include overseeing the rebirth of the legendary Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma. In 2012, his team was the first to make wine in the historic Champagne cellars in over 30 years, a celebration that was punctuated by the joining of Tokaji and Sonoma as Sister Cities on the first day of harvest for the reopened cellars.

Winemaking Philosophy:
With generations of farming and winemaking in his background, Brian has always taken to letting the terroir show first. Whether with cool climate Pinot Noir or mountain top Cabernet, his ultimate goal is to let the interaction between the site, the vine and the grower shine through to set the style of the wines.

Angelina Mondavi

Winemaker, Buena Vista Winery, Charles Krug

At the forefront of a new generation of winemakers in Napa Valley, Angelina is currently the Assistant Winemaker for Jayson Woodbridge where she’s responsible for Hundred Acre Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Cherry Pie and Layer Cake.

She is also the winemaker and co-founder for a Howell Mountain Zinfandel project that she’s developed with her mom and three sisters called Dark Matter, which has already reached sold-out, waiting list status among its followers.

Angelina has been in the winery for much of her life. Starting out working summers in the lab at age 10, she went on to get a degree in Chemistry and Business from Villanova University. After graduation she worked harvest as a lab tech at Hess Collection in Napa, and then at the Yalumba Wine Company in Barossa Valley. While in Australia, she earned a Master’s Degree in Oenology from the University of Adelaide's Waite Campus.

Out of school, Angelina was hired as the assistant winemaker at Pine Ridge Vineyards where she worked until 2010.

Jean-Charles Boisset

Winemaker, Buena Vista Winery, Charles Krug

Jean-Charles Boisset serves as president of Boisset Family Estates, one of the world’s leading family-owned wine companies, with wineries in Burgundy, Beaujolais, the Rhone Valley, the South of France, and expertise in French sparkling wines. Boisset’s August 2009 purchase of Raymond Vineyards expanded the company’s footprint in the New World, which already included properties in Canada and California’s Russian River Valley, making it one of the top 25 producers in the US.

Jean-Charles has been vital to the family firm’s expansion through organic growth and by building a collection of wineries that fit the family’s vision and share its values. He instituted the concept of the “viniculteur,” which redefined the company’s traditional role to encompass a closer, more active interest in all aspects of winegrowing to ensure sustainable farming practices and premium quality.

Integral to Jean-Charles’ long-term vision has always been a dedication to innovation and the environment, which is reflected in the organic and Biodynamic farming techniques that have been implemented at Boisset’s wineries, as well as alternative packaging to reduce environmental impact.

Peter Mondavi Jr.

Winemaker, Buena Vista Winery, Charles Krug

Peter Mondavi Jr. is the second son of Peter and Blanche Mondavi and grandson of Cesare and Rosa Mondavi, the Napa Valley pioneers who purchased the historic Charles Krug Winery in 1943.

Peter, born in 1958, grew up on the winery property. At a very young age, he and his brother Marc sanded fermenting tanks, unpacked glasses, worked in the winery’s laboratory and cellar, and drove tractors through the vineyards.

Following in his father's footsteps, he attended Stanford University, earning a BS and MS in the engineering field and an MBA a decade later. He keeps his academic ties alive as a guest lecturer at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, Law School and School of Engineering as well as the UC Davis School of Law.

He lives in Napa Valley with his wife Katie Williams-Mondavi. Their son, Lucio, a Stanford graduate, works in the automotive engineering sector in Italy. Daughter Lia graduated from Harvard and lives in London, working for a food tech start-up.
