Description

The Tench family arrived in Napa Valley from England in 1848 and established the Napa Journal newspaper. When John Tench bought 60 acres in Oakville in 1965, his first inclination was to raise cattle. John's ancestors had bred some of the first Hereford cows in Shropshire, England at the turn of the 19th century. John quickly realized greater potential with grapes and by the early 1970s, Tench Vineyard was officially established. Today, the property is sustainably farmed by fourth generation family member Margaret Tench and Rem Reigersman.
An ancient volcanic landslide that began in Atlas Peak and slid down to the valley floor was the genesis of Tench Vineyard. Lying in the shadow of the Vaca Mountains on the eastern edge of the Oakville appellation along the Silverado Trail, this part of Oakville has remarkable terroir, a beautiful reddish gold mixture of volcanic rocks mixed with valley floor loams that produces world class Cabernet Sauvignon.
Over the last 40 years, Tench Vineyard has been a source of numerous 100-point wines for a very small list of Napa Valley’s finest wineries. Alpha Omega has been a proud recipient since 2019.

Winemaker, Melissa  Paris

Melissa Paris is the first woman winemaker at Alpha Omega. Originally from Southern California, Melissa received her Bachelor Science with a concentration in Enology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, one of the top five viniculture programs in the country. After graduation, Melissa quickly gained exposure to diverse winemaking techniques by working harvests for five years with renowned winemaking teams in Australia, New Zealand and California that included Penfolds Winery in Australia and Tolosa Winery in San Luis Obispo.
Melissa joined the winemaking team at Alpha Omega in 2020. In addition to making final blend decisions across all Alpha Omega wines, she facilitated new in-house advanced lab technology and revised protocols for cellar and bottling operations, which led to her promotion to Winemaker in July 2024.
Continually seeking to improve her winemaking skills and expertise, Melissa is an active participant in an all-female peer tasting group. A recipient of the The Patrick Foley Inclusive Excellence Scholarship two years in a row, Melissa will receive her Global Wine Executive MBA at Sonoma State University in March, 2025.
