Description
Being neighborly is a choice. The bond you forge with your neighbor can become an heirloom in and of itself—something timeless, passed down through generations. Like great wine, it only improves with time. "Heirloom" is a sensory embodiment of stewardship, friendship and a shared devotion, between two families, to the land. Its essence carries the story of a vineyard that has withstood the test of time, honoring Dr. George Belden Crane’s vision of elevating Napa to greatness.
Much like its namesake, every bottle of "Heirloom" symbolizes the enduring beauty of what is preserved and shared through generations. It tells the story of two families intertwined by history—a shared legacy rooted in the legendary Dr. Crane Vineyard. Together, the Salvestrin and Miller families prove that collaboration yields something far greater than the sum of its parts.
This wine reminds us that heirlooms are not just things we inherit—they are legacies we build together. After all, Napa Valley has always been, at its core, a place where neighbors come together to create something timeless.

Richard Salvestrin
Winemaker, Salvestrin, The Crane Assembly
A third-generation grapegrower, Rich learned the art of farming on the family ranch from his father and grandfather. He completed his degree in viticulture from Fresno State University in 1987 and has diverse experience in the wine industry over a 35 year career. While in college he interned at Louis Martini Winery and then held positions at Mumm Napa Valley, S. Anderson Winery and was vineyard Supervisor at Jaeger Vineyards for eight years. Rich finished his outside employment career as VP/COO of California Grapevine Nursery, a position he held for nine years until 2006.
During that time he continued to help farm the family vineyards and expanded the family's grape growing business to include winemaking. Rich and his wife Shannon established Salvestrin Wine Co in 1994 and constructed the family estate winery in 2001.
Since 2006 Rich has been focused on the family vineyard and winery's growth and success.

Philipe Melka
Winemaker, Salvestrin, The Crane Assembly
I spent much of my youth in Bordeaux, France, earning my geology degree from the University of Bordeaux. On a whim, I took a wine course in my final year of study - a decision that changed my life.
My journey started at Chateau Haut Brion (where my passion for cabernet-based blends and sauvignon blanc began) and I completed a masters program in Agronomy and Enology under the direction of Professor Sequin, the renowned terroir specialist. I was fascinated by the relationship between soil and wine quality, a fascination which continues today.
Yearning to know more, I set out for Napa Valley (Dominus Estate), Western Australia (Chittering Estate), Chianti in Italy (Badia O Coltibuono) and Bordeaux (Chateau Petrus) where I divided my time between soil study and winemaking. However, the great diversity of terroirs I found in Napa Valley, and its potential for extraordinary wines, was a revelation to me. So, with the knowledge I've gained around the world, I've devoted the past 15 years to winemaking here in Napa Valley, both as a consultant to the most highly regarded estate wineries, and as co-proprietor of Melka Estates with my wife, Cherie.
We've also found time to raise a beautiful family together. I feel fortunate to have been trained and influenced by some of the most notable personalities in the wine business: Jean Delmas and Jean Philippe Masclef from Haut-Brion, Christian Moueix and Jean Claude Berrouet from Petrus, Paul Draper from Ridge, Daniel Baron from Silver Oak and Michel Rolland from Chateau Pasteur.
