Description
Wow, what a personality! This could be the
most gregarious and rambunctious wine we’ve
ever crafted at Tres Sabores.
We first made wine from the Guarino vineyard
in northern Calistoga in 2006, when seeking
Petite Sirah for our ¿Por qué no? blend. It was
reasonably old, established, and of importance
to us: dry farmed. The soil looked like someone
had put volcanic rock through a Cuisinart.
The 2009 was hand-picked for flavor and fruit
concentration in late September, fermented
with native yeast in small, open top bins. Very
terroir driven, abundant notes of boysenberry,
cedar, and chocolate infuse this wine from start
to finish.
We anticipate that it will continue its development
in barrel for at least another 10 months.
This fall, the winning bidder is invited to join
us for both a tasting of the 2009 ‘in progress’
and a crush immersion day to experience the
magic of harvesting the Guarino ‘Pets’ in 2011.

I married a winemaker. Then I married another winemaker. They both make great wine and I've learned a great deal through a 30-year-long process of love and osmosis (and personal gumption, I guess!)
I was encouraged to start making wine in 2001 - "Don't you think it's about time that you start making the wine (from your front yard)?", he said.
