Description
In 1991, Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery and the University of California at Davis joined efforts to rescue the original clone of Cabernet Sauvignon first brought to the Niebaum Estate in 1882. This original selection was used for all of the legendary Inglenook vintages of the 1930s, '40s and '50s. The University was able to grow a new generation of clone, which was given the selection number of Clone 29. This blend of 'Clone 29' comes from three plantings: Garden Vineyard, planted in 1965, Gio Vineyard, planted in 1988, and Creek Vineyard, planted in 1994. The wine is opaque with a deep purple color, and has the telltale clonal traits of violets and black sour cherry that are the cornerstone of Rubicon.
