All-estate blend that is 85% Rattlesnake Cabernet Sauvignon and15% Merlot
The vines are grown on soils of Andesite volcanic rock on a 35° slope on top of Spring Mountain
The amazing 2013 vintage provided perfect conditions to assemble this unique blend
The wine is matured for 22 months in all new French oak under perfect conditions in our cave
Barnett Vineyards Estate is located over 2000 feet in elevation atop Spring Mountain in Napa Valley. Here the boulder infused soil and 35 degree-terraced slopes offer perfect sun exposure, while the cooling night winds at this altitude allow a longer period of flavor development before the sugars increase (typically picking two weeks later than the valley floor).
For this unique premiere bottling we will be blending some of our Estate Merlot (15%) into the Rattlesnake Cabernet. This will create a richer velvety mouthfeel, and add more complexity to all the power of this intense and exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. This beautiful wine will be aged in new French oak for 22 months in the naturally perfect climate of our caves and tended meticulously by our winemaker David Tate.
Wine is 100% estate grown and bottled
Winemaker, Barnett Vineyards
I have been the head Winemaker and General Manager at Barnett Vineyards for over thirteen years.
Prior to Barnett, I worked at Ridge Vineyards as assistant winemaker. During my five years atop Montebello, I garnered immense amounts of knowledge in every facet of premium wine production.
In the 1990s I worked in the Barossa Valley in Australia among old-vine Shiraz for J&J Hahn, as well as in the vineyards for Rockford's and St. Hallet's. I then traveled to Provence and worked as an assistant to the winemaker in one of Provence's top wineries, Domaine Richeaume.
