Exclusive estate blend of Rattlesnake for Premiere Napa Valley: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and a unique contribution of 15% Petit Verdot
Vines grown on soils of andesite volcanic rock on a 35-degree slope high in the Spring Mountain District nested appellation
Perfectly maturing for 22 months in all new French oak under ideal conditions in our cave
All coming from the stellar powerhouse 2018 vintage
Our estate is located at 2,050 feet in elevation atop the Spring Mountain District. Here the boulder-infused soil and 35-degree terraced slopes offer perfect sun exposure, while the cooling night winds at this altitude allow a more extended period of flavor development before the sugars increase (typically picking three weeks later than the valley floor). This leads to the production of an amazingly concentrated yet balanced mountain Cabernet Sauvignon which can age incredibly well for more than a decade. This unique blend of the stellar 2018 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon (85 percent) is increased in size by Petit Verdot (15 percent) to create a big, bold wine which is balanced by mountain acidity.
Wine is 100% estate grown and bottled
Winemaker, Barnett Vineyards
I have been the head winemaker and vineyard manager at Barnett Vineyards for over ten years.
Prior to Barnett, I worked at Ridge Vineyards as assistant winemaker. During my five years atop Montebello, I garnered immense amounts of knowledge in every facet of premium wine production.
In the 1990s I worked in the Barossa Valley in Australia among old-vine Shiraz for J&J Hahn, as well as in the vineyards for Rockford's and St. Hallet's. I then traveled to Provence and worked as an assistant to the winemaker in one of Provence's top wineries, Domaine Richeaume.
