50% fruit from the top of Spring Mountain, blended with 50% fruit from the Napa Valley floor
100% Cabernet Sauvignon and 100% estate fruit … the first time for this blend
The mountain fruit is from our Rattlesnake Vineyard, growing at a 35-degree slope on andesite volcanic rock
The valley floor block is a two-acre parcel on the Silverado Trail at the start of the Calistoga nested appellation
Our flagship wine, the Rattlesnake Cabernet Sauvignon, and our Cyrus Ryan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are our two premium bottlings. They are estate wines that have garnered an immense following and high critical acclaim. The Rattlesnake comes from the top of Spring Mountain, growing on solid andesite volcanic rock, and the Cyrus Ryan vineyard grows on rich loam soil in the south end of the Calistoga appellation. For the first time ever, we will blend these two amazing wines together, 50/50, and only for this five-case bottling.
Winemaker, Barnett Vineyards
I have been the head winemaker and vineyard manager at Barnett Vineyards for over ten years.
Prior to Barnett, I worked at Ridge Vineyards as assistant winemaker. During my five years atop Montebello, I garnered immense amounts of knowledge in every facet of premium wine production.
In the 1990s I worked in the Barossa Valley in Australia among old-vine Shiraz for J&J Hahn, as well as in the vineyards for Rockford's and St. Hallet's. I then traveled to Provence and worked as an assistant to the winemaker in one of Provence's top wineries, Domaine Richeaume.
