Over his 25+-year career, winemaker Joel Aiken frequently used fruit from his favorite Spring Mountain vineyard, Block 81, in a blend. But when he joined forces with Amici Cellars, he couldn’t wait to let that fruit shine as a single-vineyard wine. So for Premiere, we created this Block 81 Cabernet.
Block 81 sits at 1,200 feet on an eastern-facing hillside in the Mayacamas mountains. Long days and mild temperatures allow the fruit ripen slowly and gently, producing an elegant wine with balanced sugars and fresh acidity. The grapes for this lot weren’t harvested until November 1, which allowed for a full expression of the vineyard’s gorgeous array of dark fruits and soft tannins.
Barrel aged 20 months in 100% French Oak barrels, 80% new.
