Owner William Jarvis and winemaker Ted Henry offer a blend based on our flagship Lake William blend.
The original Jarvis Lake William blend came about in 1993, when during midnight pump-overs William Jarvis accidentally pumped a third of a tank of Cabernet Franc into a tank of Cabernet Sauvignon. A devastating experience, but after fermentation, winemaker Dimitri Tchelistcheff, proclaimed it “not that bad.” It improved with age, and has been made every year since.
This Premiere version includes Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and Merlot added for good measure. The Cabernet comes from our Heritage Vineyard, a quarter-acre site that contains the only vines from the original estate planting in 1985. This exceptional original block is showcased for the first time in our inaugural Premiere Napa Valley offering.

I attended UC Davis and earned a BS is Fermentation Science in 1999. Directly out of school I went to work for the Trinchero Family on their new Napa Valley brand. I started with the M.Trinchero label, and when the family later purchased Folie a Deux and Napa Cellars I also produced as their associate winemaker. After eight harvests in St. Helena, I spent a year learning the art (it's a difficult grape!) of making Pinot Noir among other varietals at Carneros's Artesa Winery. When there was a winemaker opening at Jarvis, I jumped at the chance to craft small lots of mountain estate fruit in their underground winery.
