  • A custom blend from our best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 337 and 169 and Petit Verdot

Description

2012 was one of the vintages we always hope for, but rarely get. A great start with no frost and a healthy fruit set led to a warm but never hot summer that let the vineyard slowly ripen and fully express its individuality.

When I think of the Three Twins Vineyard, aromatics and texture are two of the first things that come to mind. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon has both of these hallmark characteristics in a combination that allows me to say without reservation that this is the best vintage for Stone the Crows to date. Aromatically, the lift and bouquet remind me very favorably of the 2011, while the silky texture and fine tannin of the midpalate take that next step that I always knew this site was capable of.

A wine of balance and understated power, I would age this wine for 18-24 months before enjoying over the following 15+ years.

Thomas Rivers Brown

Winemaker, Stone The Crows

Winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown

One of the country’s top talents, Thomas was named 2010’s winemaker of the year by Food & Wine magazine. He has been in Napa since 1997, where he began his career at Turley Cellars and now makes wines for select premium labels. Over the last decade, Thomas has received not just one but ten 100-point Wine Advocate Parker scores to go along with two 100-point awards from Wine Spectator. Beyond generosity and roundness in tannins, his wines have few common traits and are very individual.

Country born: US

Education: Thomas developed an interest in wine while studying History and English at the University of Virginia.

His new education began when winemaker Ehren Jordan at cult Zinfandel producer Turley Wine Cellars gave him an entry-level job in 1997.

Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years

Winemaking Philosophy:
Thomas believes in non-interventionist style that eschews technology and all elements that contribute to sameness. He sums it up with "do as litle as possible.”
