2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
Sourced from JAX Vineyards’ private estate in Northern California, this wine is hand crafted by winemaker Kirk Venge in 100% French oak. The old, stressed vines produce low yields of intense dark, cherry fruit coupled with an elegant minerality derived from the alluvial clay soil at the foot of Mount St. Helena.
This wine is aged for two years in 100% french oak barrels. We use three different premium brands of new french oak and age the wines in separate lots. Finally, we spend days examining various combinations of these lots as we seek the optimal final blend.

Winemaker, JAX Vineyards
Kirk has been exposed to the world of winemaking from day one under the watchful eye of his father, Nils Venge. He earned his degree in Viticulture and Enology at the University of California, Davis, graduating in 1998. He set out working in summer internships as the experimental winemaker for Mumm, Napa Valley, where he focused on producing still Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. And his passion for the industry continued to grow through a tenure at Raptura Vintners in New Zealand.
Working with JAX Vineyards since 2003, Kirk has a keen involvement in the redevelopment, clone selection and farming practices of our vineyard site. Most importantly, he crafts our fruit into the elegant and well balanced wines that we enjoy year over year. Currently Kirk owns Venge Vineyards and produces wine for a number of boutique wineries in Napa Valley.

Winemaking Philosophy:
My focus has always been the vineyard first. In the cellar, our experience spans four decades of evolution in winemaking. Both traditional and progressive wine production techniques are embraced while remaining focused on our core belief: only fruit grown from select vineyard sources that is handled gently and naturally produces wine worthy of bottling.
Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?
A: We strove to create an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon that wows you with purity, finesse and understated nuances, so we took fruit from various blocks around the vineyard and aged them in separate lots. We then incorporated three premium brands of new french oak into the program. Finally, we spent days finalizing the perfect blend coming from the various block lots and barrel manufacturers. Based on our tasting team consensus, we selected the most incredible blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
