Description
Best known as a sparkling house, Domaine Chandon also crafts three fine still wines— Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay— that often garner high accolades. In addition to the largest land holding in Carneros, the winery also owns vineyards in Mount Veeder and Yountville. A small portion of the warmer two AVAs is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon because the grape is well suited to those regions. With this lot, we demonstrate our ability to craft food-friendly still wines with the first-ever Cabernet Sauvignon under the Domaine Chandon label.

Joel Burt
Winemaker, Chandon
Joel was born and raised in California’s Central Valley into a family of organic table grape farmers. He spent his summers working in the family vineyards in the hot Central Valley and in Arizona. Upon graduation from high school, he worked as a line cook and sous chef while taking classes at the local college. As he became skilled in food preparation, he slowly became obsessed with wine. After a crush and a brief stint as a wine buyer, he enrolled in Fresno State’s enology program. Following graduation, he came to work in the Napa Valley and worked for several wineries before coming to Domaine Chandon.

Education: Joel has a BS degree in enology from CSU Fresno, he also has a Permaculture Designers Certificate and has nearly completed the WSET Diploma.

Winemaking Philosophy:
Joel has brought a doctrine of gentle handling and Burgundian winemaking techniques to Domaine Chandon to create wines that are elegant and complex.

Q: What was your inspiration for this offering?
A: Napa Valley is most famous for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. Within Domaine Chandon’s vineyard holdings, the altitude and varying aspects of the Mount Veeder property have proven to be an ideal site for growing Cabernet Sauvignon
