Description
Newton is pleased to present this "Piece of the Puzzle." Founded in 1977, Newton's rugged Spring Mountain estate is one of the pioneering ranches of Spring Mountain District. Of the 560 acres, 120 are planted in 112 small parcels interspersed with the natural forest at elevations ranging from 500 to 1,600 feet above sea level. The winery's icon wine, The Puzzle, hails from this estate. Always a Bordeaux blend, the Puzzle's composition changes each year based on what Mother Nature offers. This Cabernet Sauvignon wine from the mountain estate is rich and concentrated; destined to become a piece of The Puzzle. We offer it today as an intense expression of mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon.

My first winemaking job was at Bernardus Winery in Carmel Valley, starting in the cellar and became the assistant winemaker. I then worked at Bridlewood and Sterling Vineyard before coming to Newton Vineyard in May 2008.

Winemaking Philosophy:
I enjoy working with the intense fruit that Newton's Spring Mountain vineyard provides, aiming to interfere as little as possible. This means using the native yeasts and bottling wine unfiltered, which is a more meticulous, laborious approach, but worth it.
