Description

Hudson Ranch tends to mean different things to different people. For some Hudson Ranch is related to the picturesque landscape. For others, it describes our enigmatic energy. For us, it is a place, a feeling, and an idea. Hudson Vineyards produces grapes of distinction from uniquely situated sites on two hundred acres of vineyards. Thirty years of meticulous winegrowing and winemaking experience goes into each bottle of Hudson Wine. Additionally, Hudson Vineyards’ premium grapes are sold to 27 wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties, some of which produce wines from specific vineyard sites identified as distinct and bear the ‘Hudson Vineyards’ designation on their labels. The Alexander’s Field Chardonnay is produced from a historic site and selection at Hudson. This wine is normally blended and is being showcased as a single vineyard wine for the first time. It is full of the finest qualities from the ranch.

Winemaker, Christopher Vandendriessche

I grew up on my family's vineyard in Napa, and worked in the vineyard and as harvest help through high school.

Country born: United States

Education: Worked/educated in France. Oenology at University of Bordeaux. 1993-1996

Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years

Winemaking Philosophy:
Great wine is not a commodity, it always begins with great vineyards, and a winemaking style that expresses its uniqueness. Balance should be found in the vineyard, viticulture should strive to produce grapes ripe at perfect balance. Natural is better. Modify the fruit as little as possible. Low-moderate sulfur use is essential for great winemaking, in careful moderation.
