Description

What a difference a year makes! From our shortest crop ever at one ton per acre in 2011, to a year of bounty in 2012 when Mother Nature was extra generous with both remarkable quantity and stunning quality—what an Amazonian feat! With this wine we revert to the tried-and-true Brown Ranch blocks used for our Premiere Napa Valley wine for the past 10 years—G and H. These blocks are located at the back of the ranch. Planted here on the most exposed promontory with the rockiest of droughty soils is the great Pommard clone, which thrives in these challenges. Our 2013 Premiere lot encompasses the mantle of great site adversity, draping the broad shoulders of the kingly Pommard in a coolly wonderful growing season capped with the best Indian Summer experience since 1999—in a word, magnificent! Twenty cases for all you big boys and girls out there.

Jerome Chery

Winemaker, Saintsbury

Winemaker, Jerome Chery

Upon graduation from the University of Burgundy with a winemaking diploma, I moved to Napa Valley in 1997 and focused my winemaking career on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Prior to Saintsbury, I worked at Littorai Wines under the tutelage of Ted Lemon, crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast, Anderson Valley and Russian River Valley appellations

Country born: France

Education: Diplome National d'Oenologue, Universite de Bourgogne, 1994

Years in the wine industry: 10-15 years

Winemaking Philosophy:
I try to preserve fruit and flavor intensity all the way through the process of winemaking, regardless of the final use for each lot made at Saintsbury. I think that the motto "less is better" works wonderfully well with the two famous Burgundy varieties.
