Description
Before we make a Reserve Cabernet at Groth,
we assemble the “core blend,” the very best
Cabernet harvested from our Reserve
Vineyard. The “sweet spot” on our ranch is
the Reserve Vineyard block next to Conn
Creek. This particular barrel of wine spent
18 months in a new French oak barrel from
Sylvain Cooperage, harvested from the
Chanciers Forest, where the average tree age
is 200 years old.

2014 was my 42nd harvest. Of these, 32 harvests have been in Oakville. 12 with Robert Mondavi and 21 with Groth. I also spent nine years in the late 70s/early 1980s as a "guerilla winemaker" in downtown Los Angeles at one of the country's oldest and largest wineries, San Antonio Winery.
