Description
Our oldest block of Petite Syrah was planted over 60 years ago with a field blend of Rhone varietals that includes Syrah, Grenache, Carignane and Mourvedre. Every year the vineyard produces a small-but-concentrated crop of fruit and winemaker Robert Brittan vinifies the varietals together--his years of experimentation have shown the grapes extract more complex aromas, flavors and the tell-tale Stags' Leap firm-but-soft structure when co-fermented. This barrel is Brittan's favorite from the excellent 1999 vintage. A wine with a blast of flavors from a vineyard planted in the distant past.
