Description

For years, the grapes from our estate vineyard have been under contract and gone into one of Napa Valley’s finest Meritage blends. For Premiere, we are excited to offer the very first bottling from this estate vineyard under the Maroon label, a 2009 Reserve 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This property is located in a sweet spot for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. It enjoys slightly cooler temperatures than the northern part of the valley, which allows the grapes to hang longer and reach the perfect balance of sugar and acidity. The resulting wine is very complex, well-balanced and delicious with dark berry fruit, mocha and coffee aromas, medium-weight tannins, a rich core and a long finish. It will age well for 12 to 15 years.

Aging Process

Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 24 months

Wine Facts

Chris Corley

Winemaker, Maroon Wines

Winemaker, Chris Corley

I worked at my family's winery in the summers as a teenager, and began full time in the cellar shortly after graduating high school. The 2010 harvest was my 20th at Monticello Vineyards in Napa Valley. I also make wine for a handful of small Napa Valley producers and have been making wine in the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico for the last four vintages.

Country born: United States

Education: I didn't go to college, choosing rather to learn my craft from the winemakers above and around me through an apprenticeship of 10 years in my family's winery, Monticello Vineyards.

Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years

Honors / Awards:
The greatest honor that I have received is from my family, entrusting me with making the wines that carry our Corley Family name.

Winemaking Philosophy:
The best wines are a combination of respectful grapegrowing and determined winemaking. I listen to the grapes in the field but command the wines in the cellar.

I find that the more I learn, the more questions I have. Educating ourselves is lifelong commitment and pursuit.
