Description
Cuvee Athena is named after Signorello Estate founder and proprietor Ray Signorello's first child, Athena Hope Signorello, born in early 2011.
The 2010 vintage provided us with the perfect elements of a growing season to create a wine worthy of honoring a first-born daughter: suave, elegant and supple. Ray Signorello and winemakers Pierre Birebent and Luc Morlet selected from the finest barrels that showed a slightly softer and more feminine side of our estate's diverse terroir to compose Cuvee Athena, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Like its namesake, Cuvee Athena will be approachable young, yet has the endurance to develop beautifully over time.

Pierre Birebent
Winemaker, Signorello Estate
Pierre is a sixth-generation wine grower. Growing up in Corsica, France, Pierre spent his early years among the vines learning the trade from family. After graduating from the Agriculture College of Carcassone and Macon with a degree in Viticulture and Enology, Pierre returned to his family's vineyards as vineyard manager and assistant winemaker.
Pierre soon decided to travel to California to experience a new region and style of winemaking. Over the next several years he practiced vineyard management and development, grafting and winemaking at several properties in Napa Valley.

We practice the "vigneron" style of winemaking, fusing Old World techniques with California fruit.
