Highlights

  • All four of our Cabernet Sauvignon lots are blended only once a year expressly for this offering
  • Our estate Kronos Vineyard gets this one chance to play with the other lots, bringing a brooding note to the blend
  • Adding to the depth of the conversation is the interaction between old and young vines
  • The vineyard sources hail from the bench between Rutherford and St. Helena

Description

All the Cabernet lots are on the table for blending only once a year, expressly for the Premiere Reserve. Our estate Kronos Vineyard gets this one chance to come out and play with the other lots, which all hail from benchland between Rutherford and St. Helena, a very special corner of the world for Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm always looking to walk the fine line between power and elegance in my wines and to have them speak eloquently of time and place. For Premiere Napa Valley, I added the conversation between old and younger vines. The Corison Cabernet is sourced from newer vineyards, replanted due to phylloxera, whereas our Kronos Vineyard is one of the last old Cabernet vineyards in the Napa Valley, planted more than 40 years ago on St. George rootstock.

Cathy Corison

Winemaker, Corison Winery

Winemaker, Cathy Corison

I've made wine in the Napa Valley for 40 years, first for others including Chappellet Vineyard, Staglin Family Vineyard, York Creek and Long Meadow Ranch. Eventually I found that there was a wine inside me that needed to get out and I began to make the Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Country born: United States

Education: BA Pomona College, Biology
MS University of California, Davis, Enology

Years in the wine industry: 30+ years

Honors / Awards:
San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year 2011

Winemaking Philosophy:
Great grapes make great wine. Pick ripe grapes from a terrific, balanced vineyard and let Mother Nature do the rest. My goal is to make Cabernet that is both powerful and elegant, graces the table, enjoys a long, distinguished life and speaks of place.
