Brette Bartolucci
Winemaker, Madonna Estate
From the beginning of harvest to the bottled wine it always amazes me how much the wine changes and develops throughout the process of becoming wine. I grew up in our family vineyard and spent many of my early years doing various jobs in the vineyard and at our family winery. After college, I began my formal training in the vineyard and cellar, watching and participating with my father, Andrea Bartolucci.

Winemaking Philosophy:
I believe in letting the vineyard determine the style of the wine. You cannot make exceptional wines without exceptional grapes.
Taylor Bartolucci
Winemaker, Madonna Estate
I first discovered winemaking as a child, following my father around in the cellar during harvest. It was always so fascinating to see the transformation that a cluster of grapes could make, first into juice and then into wine. Of course, I did not understand the chemical aspects of the process, until I became older. During high school, and on breaks home from college, I would assist my father in the cellar. After moving back to Napa in 2005 I applied for and was accepted into the University of California Davis Extension Winemaking Certificate. This was a year long program that enabled me to delve into the chemical, technical and fundamentals of winemaking. I was able to use this new knowledge to work with my father in the cellar. The 2012 Harvest marks my 7th year working alongside my father and our cellar crew.

Winemaking Philosophy:
My philosophy of winemaking is simple. I am the fourth generation of a winemaking family, who has consistently been farming and producing quality wines in the Napa Valley since 1922. My focus is to preserve the winemaking traditions of the generations before me, and to continue to produce organically grown, high-quality wines for generations to come.
Andrea Bartolucci
Winemaker, Madonna Estate
Andrea 'Buck' Bartolucci is the third-generation family member to proudly be a proprietor of Madonna Estate and Madonna Vineyards. Immersed in the industry since childhood, his lifelong interaction with the land and involvement in the business has allowed him the opportunity to watch and manage the growth and development of his vines from grapes to wine.
Andrea was raised on the family vineyard in Oakville, CA, and attended St. Helena High School. Upon graduation, Andrea enrolled at California State University, Fresno where he studied Viticulture and Enology. On the weekends, he would travel back to Oakville to put his skills to use. Eventually, in 1967 he returned to Oakville to continue his education with hands on experience.
He began working in the Oakville vineyards alongside his two uncles, but soon transitioned into the winery where he worked with his father as the assistant winemaker. Three years later, the Oakville facility and vineyard was sold. Filled with the desire to grow grapes and produce wine, Andrea purchased 160 acres of land in the then-unknown Carneros region of the Napa Valley. His decision to relocate to Carneros was based on many reasons, particularly, he felt that the cooler climate of the region combined with the shallow, clay loam soil would be the perfect growing environment for the delicate Pinot Noir and fragile Chardonnay grapes.
While developing Madonna Vineyard, Andrea primarily planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, however today the vineyard consists of 140 planted acres which include eight different grape varieties. Now, almost 40 years later, Carneros is known as one of California???s premier grape-growing regions.
In 1977 Louis, Andrea???s father and second-generation family member, purchased a piece of land near the Madonna Vineyard. Together, Louis and Andrea began construction on the current Madonna Estate winery facility.
As a member of the Napa Valley Vintners, and a Certified CCOF Organic Farmer, Andrea???s main focus has always been to create the finest quality of wines that he can produce. He lives with his wife, Susan, on the Madonna Estate vineyard and continues to manage the vineyard and winery, with his Susan and his daughters Brette and Taylor working by his side. He is excited about the future of Madonna Estate wines and the generations to come.
