Tournesol Estate Vineyards, located in the Coombsville AVA, is planted to the five Bordeaux varietals. In each vintage, in an expression of truly rogue behavior, one varietal seems to search for its own spotlight. In the cool 2011 vintage, the thick skins of Petit Verdot and rocky soils of the Tournesol site partnered to highlight the spice, minerality and inky intensity of the variety.
King Cab, however, is not easily nudged offstage. While disavowing the singular spotlight on the Petit Verdot, we nonetheless have created a “Petit-Centric” partnership with the lush Cabernet Sauvignon, with which it shares the volcanic dirt. The final blend is 50:50.
