Sciandri Vineyards 2014 Mezcolanza –

Sometimes you have to travel a long way to realize what you have back home.
Recently we had the pleasure of returning back to Italy for a family wedding. Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Querica (Italian for “Oak”) seems unaffected by the passage of time. Things are done here as they have been for centuries. Pasta is still made by hand, local olives are pressed into oil, and wine making is uncomplicated. It is a
special place for us in that our label’s colors and oak leaf were both inspired by this village.
Sitting down at a communal table with our Italian relatives, we fell in love with the local wine. When we asked what type of grape it was made from we always got the same curious response .......... ”Mescolanza!” Meaning blend or mixture, it defied a precise definition. Seems our family was
practicing the tradition of field blending in which many different grape varieties are planted in the same
vineyard, harvested together, and made into a singular wine. This often results in very unique and distinctive wine. We realized that we could use the spirit of this old world tradition on our own wine back home. The result is our offering for this year’s Premier Napa Valley.
