Description

Tetra is a four-varietal blend that is sylistically "Left Bank" in structure. Every year, Bill Hill's Broken Rock Vineyard produces standout Cabernet Sauvignon that dominates Tetra's four-part blend; Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc add complexity, depth and spice, but Cabernet is king! But the richness and depth of Broken Rock's 2011 Merlot and Cabernet Franc rivaled the Cabernet Sauvignon and allowed us to take a decidedly "right" turn for Premiere Napa Valley. The resulting Right Bank blend is a Pomerol-inspired wine with velvety Merlot and the spice of Cabernet Franc in the driver's seat.

Aging Process

Fermentation variables included cold soak (to increase extractability of color and tannin), inclusion of whole berries (to amplify primary fruit), fermentation temperature, cap management, and extended maceration (to soften tannins and stabilize color). Following fermentation, the free run was racked to small French oak barrels (75% new), where the wines underwent malolactic conversion. Wines were aged for 18 months in barrel, and then the final blend was painstakingly crafted through many sessions of trial-and-error tastings, finally honing in on the best-of-the-best. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration to maximize flavors and textures.
