Description
From our site at the foot of the Vaca Mountains in the heart of Coombsville comes our 2009 Terrace Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a lot blended for every Premiere Napa Valley since the very beginning. Our Rockpile and Old Vine blocks complement each other perfectly, resulting in a wine of ample, textured tannins and earthy midpalate characteristic of the area. The Old Vine block goes back to our original planting in 1979, while the Rockpile went in during the Renaissance of the early ’90s.
Aging Process
Aged in new Taransaud high toast thin stave barrels, one barrel each blended for 50% Old Vine and 50% Rockpile, racked once, bottled unfiltered by hand.

Tom Farella

Tom Farella's original inspiration to enter the wine trade began as a youngster at the dinner table and was later fortified by a family trip to France and some gentle prodding by father Frank. He graduated from UC Davis in 1983 with a degree in Viticulture and Enology while holding down weekend and harvest work with Neyers Vineyards and Flora Springs Winery. His first real job was as winemaker at Preston in Sonoma County which he left after six years to work in Burgundy for Domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault. The work/travel bug persisted, so he then worked in Oregon for a harvest at Ponzi Winery, then in the vineyard for Beaux Freres. It was after these rich experiences in 1990 that he came back to Farella Vineyard full time.

Q&A With the Winemaker
Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?
A: This presented the opportunity to blend a separate lot with 100% new oak and with these two special lots. Over time we get to see how they mesh and evolve, as compared to our estate wines which usually have more components and a bit less new oak.
