Description

A remarkable wine from a remarkable vintage to celebrate a remarkable occasion! The Mount Veeder Cabernet provides great structure and concentration with an amazing freshness due to roots going to find nutrients all the way down to 47 feet, while the Oakville Cabernet offers its generosity, abundance and beautiful elegance. These combine to create an exceptional wine that balances power and finesse with extraordinary length. The complementarity between the two growing appellations with the addition of the Cabernet France, Petit Verdot and Malbec create marvel. Absolutely magic!

Jean-Noel Fourmeaux

Winemaker, VGS Chateau Potelle

Winemaker, Jean-Noel Fourmeaux

Jean-Noel Fourmeaux, 3rd generation winemaker from Bordeaux, was an official taster for the French government in 1980 when the famous Judgment of Paris proved that California wine quality had become world-class. The French A.O.C (Appellation d' Origine Controlee) sent him to California to find out what the New World winemakers were doing. As he says, I came, I stayed! Rather than being constrained by the traditions that exist in France, he chose to be creative in making wine and became part of the California winemaking experience.

Country born: France

Education: Jean-Noel's family been making wine in Bordeaux for over a century, he jokes "my mother gave me wine instead of milk"!

Years in the wine industry: 30+ years

Winemaking Philosophy:
Often philosophic, Fourmeaux is passionate about the source of his grapes. Our vision at Chateau Potelle is to produce wines with style and character that are representative of their birth place. Like for each of us, our "roots" provide us with a unique culture, a set of mores and traditions...a style and character. Our job as winemaker is to respect and exploit the unique qualities of our "roots"... to craft wines with a sense of style and character.

Eric Stauffer

Winemaker, VGS Chateau Potelle

Winemaker, Eric Stauffer

Eric grew up surrounded by wine and food while living and working with his East coast, winery owning, food obsessed family. Wanting to be the first in the family to learn the science of wine, he moved to CA to get his winemaking degree at UC Davis, and never left. To this day he is still finding new wines to drink, new foods to taste and cook, and new ways to make better wines.

Country born: USA

Years in the wine industry: 30+ years

Winemaking Philosophy:
To make great wines one must listen to what the grapes want to be. From the vine to the fermentation to the aging, my job as winemaker is not to manipulate, but to guide the wine to be the best version of itself. I base any decisions for the winemaking process based first and foremost on taste. While the science of wine has given us a greater understanding of what happens chemically and provided many new tools, the first question I always ask when making winemaking decisions is “How does it taste?”. To bring together the heart of the grape and all it’s subtle nuances into a perfect balance, that is truly my greatest joy.
