Description
This Cabernet Franc comes from 30-year-old vines grown from cuttings taken from vines planted in 1949. The wine is dense and complex with pure fruit flavors.
We've grown Cabernet Franc since 1952 on our Oakville property. In our early days, we sold our grapes to Robert and Peter Mondavi at Charles Krug, then to Robert when he opened his winery. Robert identified our Cabernet Franc as key for his Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. To ensure it would always be available to him, Robert made a deal with our grandfather: whatever Mondavi paid for the best Cabernet Sauvignon, he'd pay for our Cabernet Franc. That got grandfather's attention and is why our vineyard is 95% Cabernet Franc!
Napa Valley owes a great deal to Robert Mondavi. Our family owes our legacy of great Cabernet Franc to him, as well.

In keeping with the family winegrowing tradition, the Detert wines are crafted by Tom Garrett, one of the three great-grandsons behind the Detert label. The Wine Spectator has heralded Tom as a rising star winemaker. He cut his teeth at the likes of Turley, Joseph Phelps, Robert Mondavi, and under Heidi Peterson Barrett as her assistant winemaker for Revana. Tom has been at the helm of the Detert wines since 2000.
