Description
In certain places on the planet, Cabernet Franc achieves a profound state of expression, no more so than on the volcanic slopes of Howell Mountain, where the 1.89-acre Winery Vineyard block planted in 1976 stands as one of the few remaining vineyards in Napa Valley on original St. George rootstock. Here at 1,750 feet, bright light, volcanic soils and cooling fog and wind conjure the best traits of Cabernet Franc grown in the Loire Valley (high-toned, verdant/ mineral notes) and in Saint-Emilion (spice and a silken texture). Our 2006 Winery Vineyard bottling conveys a haunting perfume filled with signature spice, floral and graphite elements. On the palate, one finds a juicy suppleness laced together by firm mountain tannins that will provide rewards to those with vision enough to cellar a few bottles of this wine for the future.
