Description
Inspired by a local Native American legend, founder Horace Chase named his wine estate Stags’ Leap in 1893 to honor the heroic stag which escaped its pursuers by vaulting across a chasm in the dramatic palisades above the property. Today we continue a proud winemaking tradition that celebrates this land and the richness of our history.
Our most intense wines come from Block 7, which extends down the slope from the doorstep of the historic Stags’ Leap Manor House. The soils here are extremely well drained, residual volcanics and the vines are naturally low-yielding, with fruit of unusual complexity and structure. The very best elements from this vineyard are assembled for this single five-case lot to create an exciting and accurate reflection of our unique Stags’ Leap Estate terroir and of the prestigious appellation that bears the winery name.
