Description

Our heirloom planting of historic and head-trained Sauvignon Blanc vines serves as the foundation and soul of a singular Sauvignon Blanc wine made by winemaker Rob Mondavi Jr. The Heritage Block Vineyard, near the Howell Mountain nested appellation, is a special place for the Michael Mondavi family, steeped in history. The vines, meticulously planted by Michael and his family in 2004, are attributed to rootstock with origins stemming from the esteemed Château d’Yquem in Bordeaux, whose cuttings first made their way to California in the 1880s with famed vintner Charles A. Wetmore. This fruit’s legacy blossoms into a stunning expression today with aromas of freshly cut nectarine, Kaffir lime leaves and lemongrass. The palate offers firm stone fruits of white peach and apricot alongside crisp mango. Subtle elements of French oak add a viscosity with hints of hazelnut to balance the fresh, razor-edge acidity.
