Description
This harvest, the yield of the Michael Mondavi Family’s heritage Sauvignon Blanc block, may have been relatively small, but the plentiful flavors make up for its size in a Premiere Napa Valley lot that highlights the bright characteristics expected of this unique piece of Napa Valley history.
The head-trained vines, meticulously planted by Rob Mondavi and his family in 2004, grow on rootstock originally stemming from the esteemed Château d’Yquem in Bordeaux, with cuttings first making their way to California in the 1880s with famed vintner Charles A. Wetmore.
Concentration and depth are already apparent in this wine’s youth due to the classic Gobelet pruning, and a complex texture honed by French oak will evolve through aging. Stunning from the outset are the heady tropical, citrus and stone fruit aromas—guava, white peach and nectarine, zested with lime and blood orange.

Rob Mondavi, Jr.
Winemaker, Michael Mondavi Family Estate
As a winemaker, I first consider myself as a wine drinker, asking what do I want to drink and what do my friends want to drink, and then I select the vineyards, fruit maturity and all winemaking decisions based on the desire to create mesmerizing wines for myself, friends and family.
Country born: United States
Education: A non-classic winemaking background at Santa Clara University, miscellaneous chemistry and winemaking courses, but best of all a lifetime of experience in the cellar and vineyards.
Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years
Winemaking Philosophy:
My philosophy encompasses the amazing roots my family has planted, yet roots are not enough. Finding new ways to create cutting-edge wines is key and it is important to go beyond the style of wines that my forefathers created. If not, I would be disappointed in myself for not stretching the limits, as I would not have embraced the heritage to excel that was provided by my family.
