Seavey Vineyard

Masochist’s Hill

Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley

5 cases produced

Description

2011 marked the 29th vintage we grew Cabernet Sauvignon on our beloved estate. Three vineyard blocks have distinguished themselves having the greatest intensity, tannin structure, body and aromatics. Blocks 17 and 18 provide the Cabernet Sauvignon backbone of the blend. Block 19 lends Petit Verdot’s dark inky hue, supportive tannin structure and floral aromatics. These neighboring blocks are perched high atop our property on a knee-breaking and virtually inaccessible southern-facing hillside, earning it the nickname “Masochist’s Hill.” The soils contain more rock than loam and are heavily peppered with boulders, thin soil and rattlesnakes. We reap less than one ton per acre from each block. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot. William A. Seavey, Proprietor; Philippe Melka, Consultant Winemaker; and Jim Duane, Winemaker
