Description
Block 133 of our Carneros vineyard is situated in a particularly windswept section, and its soils are Haire clay loam. These conditions give the Pinot Meunier we grow there great depth of fruit character, so we chose to feature this block in our Premiere Napa Valley offering. The wine underwent native fermentation, with 20% of the fruit left whole cluster, resulting in a rich, spicy and layered wine.

Joel Burt
Winemaker, Domaine Chandon
Joel was born and raised in California’s Central Valley into a family of organic table grape farmers. He spent his summers working in the family vineyards in the hot Central Valley and in Arizona. Upon graduation from high school, he worked as a line cook and sous chef while taking classes at the local college. As he became skilled in food preparation, he slowly became obsessed with wine. After a crush and a brief stint as a wine buyer, he enrolled in Fresno State’s enology program. Following graduation, he came to work in the Napa Valley and worked for several wineries before coming to Domaine Chandon.

Education: Joel has a BS degree in enology from CSU Fresno, he also has a Permaculture Designers Certificate and has nearly completed the WSET Diploma.

Winemaking Philosophy:
Joel has brought a doctrine of gentle handling and Burgundian winemaking techniques to Domaine Chandon to create wines that are elegant and complex.
