Blast from the Past
2000 Red Table Wine
Stags Leap District
Growing Older and Better: 2000 Blast from the Past. Our oldest block of Petite Syrah was planted almost 70 years ago with a field blend of Rhône varietals that includes Syrah, Grenache, Carignane and Mourvédre. Every year the vineyard produces a small-but-concentrated crop, and winemaker Robert Brittan vinifies the block of mixed varietals together in the same fermenter. His years of experimentation have shown that this technique extracts more complex aromas and flavors and results in the tell-tale Stags' Leap firm-but-soft structure. This lot is from Brittan's favorite barrel, from his favorite block, grown during the 2000 vintage. A wine with a blast of flavor from a vineyard planted in the distant past.
