2002 Red Table Wine
Napa Valley
Our oldest block of Petite Syrah was planted almost seventy years ago with a field blend of Rhone varietals that includes Syrah, Grenache, Carignane and Mourvedre. Every year the vineyard produces a small, concentrated crop and Winemaker Robert Brittan vinifies the block of mixed varietals together in the same fermenter. His years of experimentation have shown that this technique extracts more complex aromas and flavors, and results in the telltale Stags' Leap texture and structure, allowing the wine to evolve with age and to be enjoyed over the next 15-20 years. This lot is from Brittan's favorite barrel, from his favorite block, grown during the 2002 vintage. A wine with a blast of flavor from a vineyard planted in the distant past.
