Description
This unique Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from a few select rows from one of our most prized blocks, Block C, on our acclaimed Atlas Peak Vineyard. Rarely bottled on its own due to its ultra-low yields, this small section of Block C is renowned for delivering exquisite concentration, structure, texture and depth, showcasing deep, dark fruit notes, appealing length and fine, firm tannins.
The remote, western-facing Atlas Peak Vineyard sits in the rugged Vaca Range on the eastern side of Napa Valley. At 1,600 feet above sea level and above the fog line, the site enjoys cool temperatures but full sunlight throughout the day. The shallow volcanic soils and rocky topography have low water holding capacity, stressing the vines and giving us very low yields of tiny, exceptionally concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon berries.
The Cabernet Sauvignon used for this lot was hand-picked and optically sorted to ensure only the most perfect berries are used, then fermented and aged in the finest 100% new French oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine was then gently basked pressed before being racked to the same French oak barrels for 16 months of aging, ensuring a seamless integration of fruit and oak.

Richie Allen
Winemaker, Rombauer Vineyards
Richie has worked as a winemaker in his home country of Australia, as well as in New Zealand, and here in the United States at Rombauer. He embraces traditional and cutting-edge practices in the vineyard and cellar to make certain each wine gets the customized attention it needs.
"At Rombauer we start at the vineyard level and work at each site to grow the best grapes possible. The fruit in turn guides the style. To make the best possible wine you can’t force the vineyard to produce a wine it’s not capable of. Understanding each site and its potential has dictated the style. Ripe concentrated wines, with natural balance. The winemaking, while very precise, is somewhat simple. It all revolves around getting the most out of each block and letting the fruit shine. Winemaking is a process of not messing it up. We don’t manufacture quality into the grapes, we just preserve it."
