- We proudly present our 22nd Premiere Napa Valley wine since the inaugural event in 1997
Description
Upon evaluation of our 2019 lots, it was clear that our Merlots really made a statement. Thinking back to our 1985 inaugural vintage, now 91-year-old Frank Farella focused on Merlot with a little Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. These wines have aged beautifully over the decades and we felt this would be a great way to honor him and share one of our deepest loves: juicy, succulent and delicious Merlot, built for aging and long on complexity.

Tom Farella
Winemaker, Farella Vineyard
Tom Farella's original inspiration to enter the wine trade began as a youngster at the dinner table and was later fortified by a family trip to France and some gentle prodding by father Frank. He graduated from UC Davis in 1983 with a degree in Viticulture and Enology while holding down weekend and harvest work with Neyers Vineyards and Flora Springs Winery. His first real job was as winemaker at Preston in Sonoma County which he left after six years to work in Burgundy for Domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault. The work/travel bug persisted, so he then worked in Oregon for a harvest at Ponzi Winery, then in the vineyard for Beaux Freres. It was after these rich experiences in 1990 that he came back to Farella Vineyard full time.

Ryan Pass
Winemaker, Farella Vineyard
Ryan started working in the cellars of Napa Valley as a summer job while in College. Quickly enamored with the process he changed paths and transferred into the Viticulture and Enology program at UC Davis. He worked in multiple cellars around the valley before finding Farella. The philosophy and style of wine being made by Tom Farella was something he wanted to learn, and has been working there ever since.
