Description
"The Ravens, Amphora" is an exceptional wine - Estate Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from our small, sloping "Ravens Vineyard" has been aged in a clay vessel, handmade in Tuscany. The resulting wine generates a vibrancy, fresh minerality, and purity impossible to achieve with traditional oak barrels. As wine was originally made in terracotta, so this wine returns to the roots of winemaking. Vines grow from the earth. Returning the vines' fruit to earthenware follows a natural logic and yields a timeless expression of place.

Studied viticulture in Burgundy and enology at UC Davis. Winemaker in Bordeaux, Italy, South America, and Napa. Began his own label, Pott Wine in 2007. Consults for several wineries in Napa, including Seven Stones, Blackbird, Fisher.

I make wine because I need the intellectual challenge and the satisfaction of crafting something beautiful for those that will appreciate it. I look forward to those foggy, pre-harvest mornings when you taste the grapes and begin to imagine what they will do in the glass. I practice viticulture because the vine is the ultimate teacher, no matter how long you have been at it. In every case they show you, often with humor, how wrong or right you were! Vines give you back the effort you put in, which is a rarity in life and utterly satisfying.
