Howell Mountain is increasingly being recognized as an ideal place for Bordeaux varieties in the Napa Valley. Situated at 1,800 feet in elevation on volcanic soils with perfect exposure—ideal for mountain wine growing—the La Jota Vineyard has been producing grapes since the late 1800s.
Typically, La Jota produces a blend of Bordeaux varieties, but with this one-of-a-kind 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, you’ll be able to experience the purity that Howell Mountain and the La Jota Vineyard Cabernet have to offer.

Winemaker, La Jota Vineyard Co.
A University of Illinois football defensive lineman, president and chairman of the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, food lover, soccer dad, and holder of master’s degrees in horticulture and business, Cardinale winemaker Christopher Carpenter is as multi-layered as the wines he makes.
After graduating from UC Davis’ Viticulture & Enology program in 1998, he joined Cardinale, becoming winemaker in 2001. Equally an expert at grape growing as he is at making wine, Christopher vinifies grapes from more than a dozen vineyards throughout Napa Valley, and through arduous blending, creates a wine that demonstrates the personality of each vintage, and whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Chris Carpenter is the winemaker for some of Napa Valley's most prestigious wineries, including Cardinale, Lokoya, La Jota and Mt. Brave. He has earned a reputation for taming Napa mountain tannins and creating legendary Cabernet Sauvignon. He believes in maximum attention in the vineyards and minimal intervention in the winery to create the purest expression of place.
