Description
Hawkwind is inspired by our estate’s location, perched high on the southernmost ridge of Mt. Veeder, overlooking the fog-swept Carneros region and San Francisco Bay. Summer afternoons, as the fog begins to roll across the bay, it drives in front of it a hot wind that hits our ridgeline with predictable force. The local red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks know this and gather above our highest hill to soar on the buffeting waves of wind. Our vines know this too, and brace themselves for the drying gusts. To compensate, the grape skins thicken and darken, producing incredible aromatics and color.
This bottling features Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot from these vineyards, producing a wine of aromatic grace and splendid elegance. Additionally, because of 2010's cooler weather, the wine shows verve, grace and light-feathered nuance.

Timothy Milos
Winemaker, Rubissow
A sixth-generation Bay Area native, Timothy grew up exploring the hills of rural west Marin, building houses in the summer, reading and cooking. In addition to diverse interests in philosophy, history and politics, Timothy pursued Plant Pathology studies at New York???s Cornell University and graduate level research in Enology and Viticulture at California's U.C. Davis. While in New York, Timothy discovered the burgeoning winemaking scene in the Finger Lakes area. Here at last he found an intersection for his passions, science, history and art, all tied to the land, the seasons, and the work of one's hands. Timothy has made wine ever since. In 1997, he began working his way up the Napa Valley wine ladder, starting at Opus One, moving on to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, and eventually directing winemaking at Cliff Lede, and the former S. Anderson. Regarding his work with the Rubissow Family, Timothy says "It is a great pleasure to work with a family and team who has such a deep respect for the land, for the crafts of winegrowing and winemaking, and for the tradition of excellence created by their forebears."
