Description
Abacus is a small-production, multi-vintage, solera-style blend of 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Abacus VIII, the current release, has 14 vintages of ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (1992-2005) married into a single bottle. The complexity created through this blending of ZD’s top Cabernet Sauvignon year in and year out has created a wine with the complexity of age and vitality of youth unequaled in the wine industry today!
Eighty-five percent of Abacus VIII was returned to barrel after bottling in July of 2006, which is the continuing portion of the Abacus solera. What a fantastic starting point for ZD’s 2007 Premiere Napa Valley auction lot, Petit Abacus! This one-of-a-kind bottling of Abacus will include the marriage of two vintages (2005, 2006) of Rutherford-grown Petit Verdot into last year’s solera. Petit Abacus will include 14 vintages of ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and two vintages of Petit Verdot. Petit Abacus will be bottled in August of 2007 and released in October 2007.
