- Julien had complete control from vine to wine, and we aged this lot in 100% French oak for 18 months
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from land we hold as descendents of John Lewelling and John Taplin. Our grandparents joined the two families that were both settlers of Napa Valley in the mid 1800s. Lewellings grew fruit and grapes. Taplins moved their dairy to Napa Valley when San Francisco got too crowded. They drove cattle along the Silverado Trail and delivered milk to St Helena.
On this historical foundation we are building a future that emphasizes the terroir that is in our blood and captures each unique vintage in our bottles. We are proud to offer this lot as the first expression of our approach; a vintage where Julien had complete control and used his nuturing style to express the full body, dark berry flavors, multiple layers of minerality, and hint of mint that characterizes Appellation St Helena.

Winemaker, Taplin Cellars
Julien Fayard gained his knowledge and defined his core winemaking style from working at grand Chateaux in France such as Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte. In Napa Valley, he's worked alongside renowned winemaker Philippe Melka. He has come to be a Napa Valley veteran after more than 10 years of working with some of the most highly acclaimed and sought after wines from the Napa Valley.

Education: I have a master's degree in agribusiness from the Agriculture University at Angers, a Master in Enology from Toulouse. I am completing his MBA at UC Davis in Entrepreneurship and Business.
Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years
I am a terroir-centric winemaker looking for the essence and signature of a place. I prefer easing a wine forward over aggressive intervention. The magic for me is getting to know each vintage through the year, the harvest, and the fermentations so that I can consistently let the wine express that year and that place.
