  • Combination of Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 4 and 7 from our Mast Ranch (western Yountville hillsides) and Flat Rock Ranch (eastern Yountville valley floor)
  • Created from the top barrels of our favorite lots
  • Aging for 21 months in 50% new French oak barrels
  • Flavors of ripe blackberry and mocha with deep concentration and soft, balanced tannins


We began the blending process for "Pyramid Selection" 12 months after harvest. First, we rank seven different lots and taste each to establish preliminary blends. With this information, we pull samples from barrels in the lots that we like and rank the quality of those barrels. Finally, we take the top barrels from the two or three lots that compose our preliminary best blend and establish what we think is the best wine from Mast and Flat Rock vineyards. The percentage used from each vineyard is not predetermined but is based entirely on how the best barrels mesh and interact when blended.

Winemaker, Brian  Mox

Born and raised in the Midwest, Brian had family roots in farming and food production. He worked in the restaurant industry in Seattle, where he acquired an interest in wine. Realizing that wine related to his interests in food, science, history and agriculture, he began investigating the field of winemaking. He completed his first harvest in 1989 with Hargrave Vineyards on Long Island while completing his Chemistry degree at MIT. Arriving in Napa in 1991, Brian worked in the cellar and as an enologist. Brian helped setup Laird Family Estate in 1999. He has worked with Etude, Lewis, Darms Lane, and now is the full time winemaker for Laird Family Estate.
