From the best barrel lots of the vintage, chosen to express the floral elegance and firm structure of the Lee Vineyard
Unique blend of Pommard and Swan clones; early and later season picks to increase complexity
Lee Vineyard is a quintessential Los Carneros site that we have worked with for more than 30 years
2017 was a unique growing season in Los Carneros, alternating cool and warm periods, giving added depth
We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Lee Vineyard, dating back to the earliest days of our winery. Our intimate knowledge of this quintessential Carneros vineyard comes from decades of experience, and that familiarity played a key role in choosing the very best lots for this wine. Pommard and Swan clones of Pinot Noir, along with the added diversity of combining fruit from early and later pick dates, increased complexity and depth. The result is a unique representation of the site, balancing elegant finesse with robust structure. Along with bright acidity and even tannins, this wine has a special balance of dark fruit, spice and earth and is a fine representation of the exceptional quality that came out of Los Carneros in 2017, a vintage that was unique in its own right due to alternating periods of cool and warm weather.

Tim Colla discovered his passion for winemaking while traveling through Argentina during a post-high school gap year. After completing his studies in Fine Art and Chemistry at Columbia University, he returned to Argentina to start his career in wine with a harvest in Mendoza. This was quickly followed by a move to Napa Valley where he worked back-to-back harvests at Chappellet and Seavey Vineyards before landing in 2010 at Saintsbury.
Working as the Enologist at Saintsbury was Tim's first experience with Pinot Noir and he immediately fell for this enigmatic, and sometimes ornery, grape variety. In 2013 he was promoted to Associate Winemaker and in 2015 became the lead Winemaker at Saintsbury.
