From our 15-acre Animo Vineyard planted in Atlas
Peak’s stony, volcanic soilmo Vineyard is planted in Atlas Peak’s stony, volcanic soil
Sourced from the Crown block at an elevation of
Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon blended with a small
amount of Petit Verdot, also from Animo Vineyard
Aged for 20 months in 85% new French oak
The 15 acres of the Animo Vineyard are planted nearly entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon and comprised of a relatively uniform rocky, volcanic soil infused with streaks of iron. The vine rows climb Atlas Peak from an elevation of 1,200 to 1,350 feet overlooking the southern end of Napa Valley. The Crown Block, the parcel from which this wine is made, is the highest point in the vineyard. Picking extends late into October and requires multiple harvest passes to achieve optimum quality. Animo’s spirited character and class reflect this attention to detail.

Rob Mondavi, Jr.
Winemaker, Michael Mondavi Family Estate
As a winemaker, I first consider myself as a wine drinker, asking what do I want to drink and what do my friends want to drink, and then I select the vineyards, fruit maturity and all winemaking decisions based on the desire to create mesmerizing wines for myself, friends and family.
Country born: United States
Education: A non-classic winemaking background at Santa Clara University, miscellaneous chemistry and winemaking courses, but best of all a lifetime of experience in the cellar and vineyards.
Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years
My philosophy encompasses the amazing roots my family has planted, yet roots are not enough. Finding new ways to create cutting-edge wines is key and it is important to go beyond the style of wines that my forefathers created. If not, I would be disappointed in myself for not stretching the limits, as I would not have embraced the heritage to excel that was provided by my family.
